WELCOME TO HORT, FMARD Blog

Dear Reader,
This blog is to intimate you on the activities of Nigeria horticultural industry and areas of investment opportunities. The horticulture industry is made up of fruits, vegetables, spices, medicinal crops and ornamental as well as their production, processing, marketing, preservation and storage activities.

Federal Government is currently promoting horticultural crops that has comparative advantage in its production such as tomato, plantain and banana, citrus, okra, pepper telferia (ugu), mango, etc. Moreso, FMARD in collaboration with FAO is promoting plantain and banana production in Nigeria for Domestic Consumption and Export in some states. Farmers has been trained on different agribusiness ventures like sucker multiplication, value addition techniques, etc. Plantain and banana can be process into semi product (flour) and  bread, chumchum, wine, fish roll, etc


            
Investment opportunities in the horticulture industry range from fresh produce production for fresh market, processing, marketing, transportation/logistics, development of green house of local contents, etc. The industry is also collaborating with some local and international Agencies
